A Plasticless Juicer
Submitted by PlasticLess.com Blog
Orange juice is an awesome source of energy and vitamins. An employee of the USDA was nice enough to take this photograph of some oranges and some fresh squeezed juice.
Absent from the picture is the device that transformed one into the other. There are a lot of gimmicky juicers on the market and most of them have a lot of plastic parts. People have made their names and their fortunes hawking juicers(Warning links to page with autoplay HYPE). I would hazard a guess that many of the appliances that are sold quickly find their way to the back of the cupboard and eventually to the landfill.
This is the low tech juicer that I used as a kid…
These things last more than a lifetime and look nice enough to leave on the counter all the time. Yes, they require some manual labor, but I doubt that it is much more work than cleaning out a fancy juicer.
I am not trying to sell you a juicer. The one pictured above costs about $10, compared to $100 for the super amazing power juicer type things. My family actually eats citrus fruit whole most of the time. An orange is a conveniently packaged single serving when it comes off the tree.
